abstract = "The methods to map the population in Brazil are invariably
elaborated from a collection of socioeconomic data obtained in
accordance with the dwelling houses and with are thereafter
aggregated in territorial units, such as census sectors,
districts, countries, etc. This technique generates a certain kind
of representation that unifies the distribution of the population
in the whole unit of an adopted surface space without taking into
consideration the heterogeneity found in the region. Therefore, in
the region of study, where the main forest remainders are now
concentrated in areas of highly damaged surface and on top of some
hills; the pasture-land is predominant in areas of flat surface
and the urban occupation is mainly found on the sea-side. The
methodology to be adopted in this research is based on the
proposition of the distribution of variability on the total
population contrasting with the smallest unit found in the form of
a value scale. The model in question named people in pixel keeps
the original figures whenever the pixels are put together by
conventional territorial units. Another advantage in its use is
the possibility to estimate the total of a population through
other space units, as its the case of the hydrographic basin and
the surrounding of Conservation Units. The final map on the
continuous distribution of the population considers therefore
unoccupied areas as well as areas of little, medium and of high
occupation intensity, enabling the perception of the heterogeneity
of the territory.",
